Wow! Wow! Wow!
This day held so much more than we ever expected. We are having THE BEST time at the Strong Tower Gamers Convention in Brookfield, WI.
David got up early to attend a devotional time with a few gamers. He ended up chatting and praying with James. How cool is it that we live in a country where we have the freedom to worship, pray, and play games. God is so good, friends!
At breakfast, Raymond was teasing me about eating eggs with my french toast. (Ok… they did have veggies in them…) David joked back about eating a pepperoni, chicken sausage and mushroom pizza the night before.
“Who’s the crazy one, now?!” said David eyeing Raymond.
Raymond looked at David with disbelief that it wasn’t already clear and replied in the most matter-of-fact way ever,
“You are.” Laughter ensued. We love our friends!
One of the most interactive games we played today was called Flick’em Up: Giant Edition. It was The Law vs. the Outlaws. (I, of course, was an outlaw and David, the rule follower, was a Law Man.) We flicked movers and shot our opponents to try and capture the most money. Of course, the outlaws won. We had some sharp-shootin’ cuz’ this town wasn’t big enough for the both of us. *insert a spittoon bucket sound effect* This game is definitely going on our wish list.
We hosted our second game session in the afternoon that included our nephew, Aedan, good friend, Darren, back-for-more-Brian from yesterday, and new friends Jenna & Wyatt. It seemed that the monsters were out to get Wyatt at first. His first 4 or 5 rolls were all skull rolls and he had a hoard of monsters chasing after him. When the Dead Stirred and walked through walls, everyone was on the run. Their game finished in possibly the most epic way I’ve ever seen.
At the end, Darren was the only live player, so everyone was after him to give one of their wounds to him. Aedan caught up with him, won the battle, and gave him a wound, making his character a live player again. He snuck through the secret passage way to avoid all of the other walking dead players. As they were all closing in, we all realized that they were one roll away from sunrise. The next roll of 1 would make the clock move and Aedan would win… unless someone caught up with him. His opponents kept rolling low numbers and Aedan backed himself into a corner. On his last turn he shook the dice, hoping that skull and crossbone would be face up and the sun would rise. Tension rose. The air was thick with anticipation.
He shook it.
He rolled it.
And there in front of him was the sign that signaled the end of the game. He had rolled the skull and crossbones!!!
Because he was the only live player… He won!! And with $0 to his name!
There was an outburst of disbelief bringing several over to see what the commotion was all about. Aedan has prevailed!
I have to admit, after the game started I was asked to play the game Saboteur, with Justin & Andy, and missed the middle part of the game. I heard it was monstrous! (hee-hee!) I had played Saboteur once before with our friends Katie & Daniel. It was a blast! I had forgotten how fun that game was. Check it out if you ever get a chance.
After the epic win of Aedan, David and I played Winter Queen with a unicorn princess and her friend who was really, really good at figuring out the rules. It was a fun game with lots of sparkly jewels and a fun theme. David was the most impressive wizard, winning the role of the Winter Queen’s Advisor. Hopefully, David will advise her to give us a white Christmas this year!
While we were playing Winter Queen, we were asked if a group could play our game. What an honor.
Justin (2x player), Brian (3x player), Andy (first time), and Kyle (first time) set up the game and started to play while we finished up. What a blessing to see others enjoying the game that we had designed… without us.
We know that we are made in the image of the Almighty God. He has given each person talents and gifts. This idea, that God gave to David all those years ago, became something that brought joy and community to others. Seeing people play the game, for the first time EVER, without us, was an incredible feeling. We are so humbled that God would allow us to be able to bring others happiness in this way.
While they played the game, we even got to play the Echidna Shuffle! Love! Love! Love! If we don’t win this game in the raffle tomorrow, I am totally buying this!
